Glass Adornments is a beautiful collaboration between actual elite artisans in the Krobo Region of Ghana and two African American designers based in Maryland who have been creating since 2005! The jewelry is made of a combination of speckled sea glass style flat beads, hand painted glass beads, hand painted flat glass beads, and layered color glass bead all made in the Krobo region of Ghana. This bead making tradition is over 1000 years old. The beads were used as currency on the ancient trade route controlled by the Ashanti People. Beads still play an important role in Krobo society, be it in rituals of birth, coming of age, marriage, or death. The bronze beads are made in the ancient city of Kumasi using the Ashanti lost wax method. These bracelets also include wooden beads. All designs are exclusively made in Maryland with imported beads from Ghana West Africa.
